What happens in my body during a PEMF session?

As waves of pulsed electromagnetic field pass through every cell in the body, red blood cells repel each other more strongly (instead of stacking together) causing blood vessels to dilate and increase circulation, resulting in better oxygen supply throughout the body. The cell membranes also become more energised with a better balance between positive and negative ions. Higher cell membrane potential means better absorption of nutrients and oxygen, and better elimination of wastes and toxins.
 
Calcium is also released from the protein layer of the cell membranes, and this sets off many reactions, including greater immune system activity. The autonomic nervous system moves from a stressed sympathetic mode towards a relaxed parasympathetic mode. This allows the release of many neurotransmitters required for adequate tissue repair and health maintenance. Many of these effects continue for several hours after treatment, which is especially important during sleep, when cellular repairs are at their peak.

If you have had a health condition for many years, it may take more than a few weeks for your body to respond. In comparison, for an individual with a fresh injury or acute stage of an existing condition, a reduction in pain and increase in mobility is sometimes experienced almost immediately.

Does PEMF have any contra-indications?

PEMF is an extremely safe therapy in most situations but you are conservatively advised to not use it with these conditions:
 • During pregnancy
 • With Epilepsy
 • With heart pacemaker or other electrical implant
 • Following an organ transplant
And it should only be used with the approval of a doctor, and under their supervision, in case of:
 • Presence of tumors
 • Serious cardiac arrhythmia
 • Acute attacks of hyperthyroidism
 • Extreme sensitivity to electromagnetic fields

Can PEMF do harm, cause pain or trigger a healing reaction?

The only way it can cause any pain is when an old injury or other condition is not fully resolved. As the cells become more energised, they may try to resolve the problem, causing pain in the same site as the original injury. This is uncommon but it can happen, briefly, from time to time.
 
As cell membranes increase permeability, toxins in the cells may be released rapidly, causing the body to go through a short detoxifying phase. It usually lasts a day or two. Some may experience fatigue and cold-like symptoms. Around 10% of our clients with chronic symptoms will see an initial healing reaction, especially if they have been receiving medication for a long time. If this happens, drink plenty of water, and get lots of rest and sleep. Such phases are usually followed by increased energy and a sense of well being.
 
There are no other negative side effects documented from using PEMF, especially at the low intensity and frequency levels used. It simply recreates the same type of energy, with the same unadulterated frequencies, as would have been experienced by humans living in Earth’s magnetic field thousands of years ago. This energy is crucial to life on Earth — experiments have shown that the body starts to shut down when totally shielded from it.
 
With people who have a complex, long-standing issue, especially of a neurological type, or a very nervous disposition, a slow, cautious approach is recommended to avoid the risk of an overly strong healing reaction.
